Search Merchandising

Control which products appear first, rank higher or lower, or never appear in your site search results.

By default, Aqurate Search orders results based on the sorting option selected, such as relevance or price. Sometimes you need more control: push a campaign, feature a high-margin product, or hide items you don't want shoppers to find. Search Merchandising lets you do this with rules.

📋 Before you start

Make sure you know the product IDs of the products you want to control. Rules target products by product ID.

4️⃣ The four rule types

  • Pin to top: show these products first, in the exact order you add them.

  • Filter out: never show these products in search results.

  • Boost: rank these products higher in results.

  • Weaken: rank these products lower in results.

⚙️ How to create a rule

Go to Search → Merchandising and click New rule. Setup takes 3 steps.

Step 1: Duration

  • Indefinite: the rule runs until you edit or delete it.

  • Specific dates between: pick a start and end date. The rule switches on and off by itself.

Step 2: Rule

Select the rule type.

Search and add the product IDs the rule applies to. You can add more than one.

Step 3: Conditions

Choose which searches trigger the rule:

  • All searches: the rule applies to every search.

  • Query contains: the rule applies when the search includes your term. "crema de soare" also matches "crema de soare spf 50".

  • Query exactly matches: the rule applies only when the search is exactly your term.

❗️Boost and weaken rules apply to all searches. Conditions aren't available for these rule types.

Click Next and then Confirm to save.

🛠️ Manage your rules

Each rule in the list shows its type, start date, end date and status. Use the pencil icon to edit a rule, the copy icon to duplicate it, or the bin icon to delete it. Use the search bar to find rules by product ID or keywords.

💡 Common use cases

  • Seasonal campaigns: pin a high-margin sunscreen product to the top for "sunscreen", 1 to 30 June. The rule expires on its own.

  • Promote a product line: boost new arrivals or high-margin products across all searches.

  • Hide products: filter out low-margin or low stock items you don't want shoppers to land on.

👉 Good to know

Changes apply instantly. New, edited or deleted rules affect your search results right away.

Use rules intentionally. Every rule changes the order shoppers would otherwise see. Too many rules can push less relevant products up and lower conversion.
